Well another week has progressed and a busy week in the world of Thicket Bowls . I have also had a busy time celebrating our Granddaughter's 21st Birthday a milestone in her life as well as mine.
Last Saturday saw the second lot of semi finals for County Competitions take place at Reading Bowls Club. Our intrepid pair of Maggie Scrace and Sue Goodchild were playing against Barbara Smith and Morgan Merryweather . It was a very close game played with such incredible skill and sportsmanship it was a shame one pair had to go out. It was a game which meant a lot to both pairs as the winner would secure a place at Leamington and also neither pair wanted it to be the last game they played together.
Morgan's partner had moved to Dorset earlier in the year and was making this her last year playing for Berkshire. Maggie first went to National finals at Leamington in 1992 and has made many appearances there over the last 30 years and declared she would also be bowing out of competitive bowling this year. The final score was 17 14 with Maggie and Sue going through to the finals. I had the privilege of watching this game and felt it encapsulated everything that bowls means to me.

The Government have now lifted most restrictions and our Tour to Torquay will go ahead on the weekend of 30th July to 2nd August . We will of course have to be vigilant and take necessary precautions if advised and mostly just be sensible about the situation. Paul will update us on everything at our planned meeting on the 25th July.

In other matters we have had a few more successes in County and National Competitions. Nicola Jones and Bruce Adams (Desborough) are through to the National Mixed Pairs Berks Final on Monday 26th at Suttons B.C.
Gemma Hanks won 21 17 in her unbadged semi final on Saturday in the blistering heat at Burghfield and is now into the final.

The men are through to the Regional Semi Final of Top Club having beaten Bracknell on Sunday morning in heatwave conditions and will now face Windsor and Eton away

Nicola Jones is also through to the semi final of the National Champion of Champions Singles (Berks region) this will be on Thursday 22nd at The Island of Bohemian Club

The men's triples of Kevin Russell and Gordon also won through to the semi finals of the County Triples

I hope I have covered everything but as usual if there is any news I have missed or you want me to include please let me know Im only human and do forget things

Apologies for late updating of this Blog have had a family bereavement and its thrown me a bit.
The Ladies Senior Fours travelled to Thatcham last week to play Kingston Bagpuize they were playing on a neutral rink because of the mileage difference. After 7 ends and after dropping a 4 they were 9 shots down but on the very next end they picked up a 6 . On the penultimate end they were only 2 down and the opposition were holding. The very last shot of the game was superbly executed and resulted in a win for the Thicket by 1 shot 20 19.
The second round was on Monday 12th July when they were up against a very strong team from Didcot. Unfortunately their luck deserted them and they never really found line or length and lost heavily. Never mind all good experience for next year.
On a very inclement Monday evening the quarter finals of the Men's Fours were at Tilehurst. After starting in bright sunshine the weather soon turned to heavy rain and the luck of the irish was not with us as the men were beaten by a strong 4 from Hagbourne.
Both teams of the men's pairs were also unlucky going out in the last 16.
We have one team left in the men's triples and they will play their Quarter finals on 16th July at Suttons B.C. Am sure they would appreciate some support.
On Saturday 17th July our Secretary Gemma Hanks is in the semi final of the Unbadged singles . She will be at Burghfield Bowling Club and is due to start at 2. 00 p.m

The following week on the 25th July Sue Goodchild and Maggie Scrace will be playing in the semi-finals of the pairs at Reading Bowling Club against Barbara Smith and Morgan Merryweather from Island Bohemian. They are scheduled for a 9.30 a.m. start. I am sure all the ladies would appreciate some support for those able to go along.
