LEAMINGTON AND MORE

We are coming to the end of the bowling season sadly , finals day is on the horizon and we have enjoyed the ups and downs of Leamington (well some of us have)

 Maggie Scrace and Sue Goodchild were in action at Leamington on Monday 23rd August in the first round of the pairs against the ladies from Shipton Yorkshire and after 16 ends came out  19 8  winners.  With barely time to have a sandwich and a cup of tea they were back on the green to play their second round which this time didn't quite go to plan as they were up against a strong pairing from Lincolnshire one of them being Amy Gowshall a Commonwealth Games and England player.  Sadly they bowed out in this game but well done to both especially Maggie who has won her way to Leamington many times during her long years at Thicket, she says this was her swan song and is bowing out of  County and National Competitions 
Tuesday was the day for the men's triples competition to start and our threesome of Gordon Knapper, Russell Harper and Skip Kevin Scrace didn't get off to a great start against the men from Norfolk who raced ahead and our boys never got to grips with the green and bowed out of the triples
Ah well there is always next year.

TRIUMPH OVER READING

On Sunday 8th August Thicket's intrepid trio of Gordon Knapper, Russell Harper and Skip Kevin Scrace were successful in winning the County Finals Triples Championship played at Tilehurst against a strong team from Reading B.C. They were cheered on by great support from Thicket members and who kept up a regular supply of mints and toffees . They now proceed to Leamington as Berkshire Triple finalists

FINALS WEEKEND Men's and Ladies

On Sunday 8th August  at Tilehurst Bowls Club the men's triples of Gordon Knapper Russell Harper and Kevin Scrace will be playing the trio of Aland Symondson Simon Jones and Robert Newman from Reading Bowls Club .  We wish them Good Luck and am sure they will appreciate some support for this game.  Please refer to e mail from Gemma with regard to parking at Tilehurst. This match is scheduled for a 1. 15 pm start

The following weekend of  14th August again at Tilehurst Bowls Club sees our intrepid pairing of Maggie Scrace and Sue Goodchild up against Sally Gilbert and Jane Murphy of  Didcot Bowls Club and also we have our Club Secretary Gemma Hanks in the final of the unbadged singles against Carol Goddard of Island of Bohemia.  Both these matches are scheduled for a 9.30 a.m. start .  Again I am sure you will want to go along and show your support.

It is a great achievement for such a small club as Thicket to get to the finals of the County Competitions and we are very proud of everyone who entered and competed this year.
